There are two types of timing kits: chain or belt. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of chain-driven engines instead of belt-driven engines.
Do you know why this trend is happening? Because chain timing has a longer life, unlike belt timing.
In the timing kits we can find the following engine parts: chain or timing belt, sprockets, chain tensioner, slides and guides, gaskets and seals.
Sometimes we can find different timing kits applicable to the same engine.
SHY6 MAZDA TIMING KIT
An example is the SHY6 engine which can be found in models such as Mazda 3, Mazda 6 or Mazda CX-5.
In this engine we can find 4 different timing kits, all of them have parts in common such as chains, tensioners, rocker arms… However, some of them include sprockets and gaskets and others do not. It is therefore very important to check with the photo the parts you need to repair the engine and select the correct timing kit.
SHY8 MAZDA TIMING KIT
Unlike the previous case, there are engines such as the Mazda SHY8 that are only fitted with one timing kit.
It is not only the components of the kit that you have to take into account. It is important to consider the characteristics of the engine: displacement, horsepower, year of production, etc…. All these elements are key to the success of all your repairs.
