Nissan is a leading Japanese automotive company, known throughout the world for the production and sale of vehicles. Founded in 1933, Nissan has evolved over the years and has played an important role in global industry.
In its commitment to meeting both general and specialized demand, Nissan has integrated industrial engines into some of its models, especially those designed for heavy-duty or specific requirements. The engines chosen for these tasks have been Cummins and Perkins engines.
NISSAN AND PERKINS ENGINE
In the early 1980s, Nissan was determined to expand its market in Europe, and what better way to do this than to take advantage of the recently launched Patrol 160 model (known in other countries as Nissan Safari) by fitting it with an engine of national origin (the MD27 Perkins) that Motor Ibérica was already manufacturing in Barcelona for the Ebro vans.
The Patrol received its first restyling in 1985, two years after it went into production. But the big novelty was the inclusion in the range of two new diesel engines: the A428 with 2,820cc. and 76hp, which replaced the old MD27.
The reliability and versatility of this engine later led Nissan to include it in commercial models such as the Nissan Trade.
NISSAN AND CUMMINS ENGINE
Nissan and Cummins Diesel began a research collaboration in 2010 through the “ATLAS” project. Research done during this program helped shape the Cummins engines used in current projects.
One of the notable collaborations between the companies is the incorporation of the Cummins ISB engine in its various versions in commercial models such as the Nissan Atleon.
The Cummins ISB4 engine features an in-line 4-cylinder construction with a displacement of 3.9 liters and electronic fuel injection, as well as a common rail injection system in which fuel is distributed to each cylinder from a common rail line and metered by electronically controlled injectors. The Cummins ISB 4 complies with Euro III emissions standards.
